UNIVERSAL MUSIC LATIN AMERICA LEADS THE LATIN GRAMMY FIELD, AGAIN, WITH 33 NOMINATIONS Juanes shines with 5 Nominations, taking his total to 15, making him the most nominated Artist in the History of the Latin Grammy Awards Molotov garners 4 Nominations including Best Record and Best Rock Album of the Year Caetano Veloso, Grupo Límite and David Bisbal take 2 Nominations each Gustavo Santaolalla (Owner and Founder of the Surco Label) received 5 Nominations, consolidating his position as one of the Top Latin Producers The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences announced the Final Nominations for the 4th Annual Latin Grammy Awards at a Press Conference held in Miami this morning. The 33 Nominations achieved by the Artists of Universal Music Latin America is spread across a wide variety of genres including Pop (Juanes, Enrique Iglesias and Bisbal), Rock (Molotov, Cassia Eller and Juanes), Salsa (Oscar D’Leon), Merengue (Grupomania), Hip Hop (Orishas and Dante), Brazilian Pop (Caetano Veloso and Kid Abelha), Samba (Alcione), Sertaneja (Chitaozinho & Xororo), Flamenco (Carmen Linares Con Gerardo Nuñez Trio), Ranchero (Pedro Fernandez), Grupero (Límite) and Norteño (Tucanes De Tijuana). Jesus Lopez, Chairman of Universal Music Latin America and Iberian Peninsula, commented "The depth and diversity of the nominations achieved is a true reflection of the commanding presence of Universal Music Latin America’s artists in the Region". Juanes was present at the Press Conference, having arrived from an extensive 25 date US Tour, to receive the great news first hand, just before jumping onto a plane to fly to Madrid where he kicks off his month-long twenty one date tour of Spain. Molotov received the news as they landed in Mexico City, returning from a 20,000 sold-out show in Durango, for a short breather before they embark on their 29 Date Tour of Latin America. David Bisbal arrived at the Conference, following promotion in Argentina, Chile and the West Coast of the US, and then flew out in the afternoon to Mexico to continue with his intensive promotional itinerary. After just recently suffering 3 heart attacks, Salsa’s Lion, Oscar D’León receives "Best Salsa Album" nomination for his 69th release "Infinito" during a break from his completely sold out European tour. The 4th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held in Miami at the American Airlines Arena on September 3rd, 2003.
